Abstract

Caries is one of the most common chronic diseases and the main cause of tooth loss. Early detection provides a better evaluation of the
disease and improves the chances to succeed of prevention strategies. This pilot study aims to compare the effectiveness of ICDAS-II
system (International Caries Detection and Assessment System) and the fluorescence terminal (Proof) of VistaCam iX intraoral
camera, in the early diagnosis and assessment of caries in permanent teeth. Results shows a fair correlation between ICDAS II and
VistaCam iX Proof; intraoral camera proved to be a useful support to the ICDAS II visual / tactile monitoring of carious lesions in
occlusal surfaces.
